Hi, my name is Zach Johnson, and I am a sports writer for Ka Leo. I have played and been around sports for my entire life and am an avid fan of any sporting team from my hometown of Denver, Colorado. Over the past five years however, I have lived in Honolulu, Hawai‘i where I went to the University of Hawai‘i and majored in Political Science. In my time in the Aloha State I have worked in the state capital and got an in-depth look at how Politics really work, but my calling and passion has always been for sports. In my last year at the University I was lucky enough to get a job with the school newspaper Ka Leo. While at the paper I covered women’s and men’s volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, sand volleyball and was able to make the journey to Spokane, Washington to cover the Hawai‘i men’s basketball team in the 2016 NCAA tournament against Cal and Maryland.
Ultimately I love to write analysis and feature stories, and pride myself on developing angles and stories that are not often taken by other media groups, but also have taken a Gonzo approach in some of my writing in honor of the late journalist Hunter S. Thompson.
